Un tempo era normale trovare, in piazza o dentro degli edifici dedicati, “il mercato”, dove ci si recava ad acquistare non solo primizie provenienti dalle campagne, ma anche prodotti artigianali, stoffe, utensili, e molto altro. I mercati di un tempo erano spettacolari e pittoreschi, passeggiando tra i banchi di carne e pesce, tra i cesti traboccanti di frutta e verdura, ci si inebriava di odori e colori, la sintesi perfetta dell’indole colorita ed allegra e della cultura poliedrica e cosmopolita di noi siciliani.
